Staff Mobility: Chur / CH – Bucharest / RO Intensive course in Biblical Hebrew

From January 13th to 17th 2015, Prof. Dr. Michael Fieger, professor ordinarius for Old Testament and Hebrew at the Faculty of Theology in Chur, Switzerland, taught an intensive course in Biblical Hebrew at the Roman-Catholic Faculty of the University of Bucharest where he is also an associated professor.

He was assisted by Andri Casanova, assistant and doctoral student at the Faculty of Theology in Chur, Dr. Susanne Haury von Siebenthal, student of reformed theology at the University of Bern, Switzerland, and Victor-Lucian Georgescu, student at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Bucharest.

During 27 hours in total, students were introduced to the basics of Hebrew grammar and jointly read and translated the first chapter of Genesis. The course was concluded with an oral examination. The students immensely enjoyed the introduction to Biblical Hebrew and by comparing Romanian, English and German translations with the Hebrew text gained a first impression of the importance of having access to the original text.
